How friends scam friends with the help of PayPal.

I was scammed by a so called "friend" who lived only 14 hours away from me. I needed tuition money and decided to sell off a lot of my old nicnacs, vintage and antique items, and old designer items. I was talking to a "so called friend" and asked her if she was interested in anything. She asked if I sold her most of it, could I cut her a deal as she found value in the items and wanted to re-sell them for extra spending cash. I told her sure. This happened in NOVEMBER. The transaction was done!

Evidence number 1: Shortly after receiving the package this "so called friend" emailed me saying how she was so happy at how the items got there so quickly and that she couldn't wait to get through them. The items that she had already seen she loved and even wanted to keep them for herself.

I went on vacation as as I checked my email only once a day, I got a notification from PAYPAL saying that a dispute claim has been opened.

This "so called friend" had opened a dispute on these items knowing that I had little to no access to internet. She had that these items were NOT RECEIVED. She thought I was COMPLETELY STUPID that I trusted her ENOUGH to not even provide tracking. I had tracking and the package was there in DAYS.

The dispute was closed in my favor.

A couple of days after the dispute had been closed, she emailed me with the "oh is woe, please forgive me speech" (of course this is all printed).

Evidence two: Her stating that she does have the products but she needed me to buy back these items back because she couldn't sell them. But she did sell a couple of products so there would only be a "little" to buy back. I said absolutely NOT! *Who does that?*

So in March, I am hit with a huge charge back. This time her reasoning is "item not described".

Well, I understand that Seller Protection does not protect against this reason, however it protects against FRAUDULENT CLAIMS - which they are CLEARLY.

About 10 PayPal reps told me to wait it out, let the charge back clear and then go from there. If the credit card company decides to side with the buyer, I should be able to register for an appeal.

The long months went by and the charge back was granted in her favor. Another 10 reps said "I'll take care of it and put in an appeal for you".

So, I log off PayPal to never use again.

I get a call out of the blue, MONTHS later, from NCO Collections and they say that I have to pay back the debt. I said, I am in no debt, It is in the process of getting appealed. They said no it is not, but if you pay me 60% of the cost, I will "let you off the hook". I said no. The last time I talked to this person, she told me that she cannot send the merchandise back because she doesn't even HAVE all of them.

My question here is this: If a reputable credit card company knows that this person does NOT even have the full order of merchandise that was originally purchased, would they really grant a charge back? I highly doubt so.

This "debt collector" who called me did not know anything of the case other than the dollar amount and my name.

Do they honestly expect us to be so scared that we would send a check to some P.O box without any documentation of the fact that the charge back even went through?

The funny thing is, is that the last time I talked with this "so called friend", the funds from the "charge back" was not even released and they did not even know if they would be 100% released to her. But even far beyond me conversing with them, PayPal had already dubbed my account.

So I honestly do not even have a clue whether or not the buyer had received the funds back. And the other funny thing is that I don't even have the merchandise back (well, whatever is left of it anyway).

This case is still open and I'm still fighting but PayPal will always demand money without proof!

BE AWARE.
